I also remember that we were (unfortunately unsuccessfully since it was during the week) looking for a place to go dancing! Anyway, when we came back home there was a huge spider sitting on the corridor wall in my apartment, and we all looked at it in a mix of awe and surprise, when Susan slew the fearsome beast with a valiant blow from her bare hand!! We looked at each other again, even more surprised and then cracked up laughing and couldn’t stop for a very long time!! In fact I still had sore stomach muscles the next day! Both Susan and Rose were staying at my place and we had a fun evening together with quite a few glasses of nice, Swiss wine. Susan and Rose (Rosemarie DeClerck-Floate from AAFC in Lethbridge) visited the CABI Centre in Switzerland many years back. One of them will stay in my memory forever. There are many memorable stories that come to my mind when thinking about Susan. She left us way too soon and she will be dearly missed at the upcoming International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds in Argentina. I will always remember Susan as a cheerful, enthusiastic, warm, cat-loving person with a contagious laughter, always ready for a joke but at the same time a very knowledgeable, serious and successful scientist. It is with great sadness that I am writing these words in memory of Susan. A formal program will commence at 2:30 p.m. A Time of Remembrance will be held at Park Funeral Home, 311 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon on Saturday, Apbetween 2:00 p.m. Her life was cut way too short and she will be missed by so many. Sue will be remembered for her generous and caring nature. She enjoyed travelling with her family, was a foodie, and was known to enjoy a fine wine or a wee dram of scotch with friends.

Sue loved her “boys”, cats Briggs and Paul. Visiting scientists were often hosted to a good home-cooked meal or an outdoor grill on the deck. She was also a dedicated supporter of the city’s Farmers Market which, in turn, contributed to her legendary Christmas parties and backyard barbeques.

Sue was an avid gardener, and her back yard was on full plant display every summer. She travelled throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Europe, South Africa, South America, and China as a well-respected invited speaker. She was one of the strongest advocates of biological control for both Canada and the world. Sue was a visionary, a world-class scientist, and valued collaborator in her area of specialty.

She moved to Saskatoon in 1995 and spent 29 years with the biocontrol group. Upon graduation, she moved to Regina to begin her post doc position at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and was subsequently offered a permanent Research Scientist position in the area of biological control of weeds. all from the University of Alberta in Plant Science. She is survived by her twin sister Sylvia Boyetchko (Alfred Nykolyn), sister Nancy Legere (John Legere), and brother Ralph Boyetchko.
